About

Ordinary life is worth noticing and photographing well.

Point & Shoot is an independent editorial project about seeing the photographs already happening around us.

Most of the photographs that matter to us aren't made in extraordinary places.

They're made at home. On the way somewhere. Around people we know. During trips, celebrations, routines, changing seasons, and ordinary afternoons.

Point & Shoot is about becoming better at seeing those photographs before the moment passes.

That might mean noticing where you're standing. Waiting another second. Leaving more of the room in the frame. Photographing the things surrounding someone's life instead of only the person.

Sometimes it simply means recognizing that something ordinary is worth a photograph.

The goal isn't better photography. It's better photographs of your life.

Noticings

A Noticing begins with something in ordinary life that might be worth photographing—a person at the kitchen table, shoes by the door, something happening while you're still on your way somewhere—and looks at what might be there if you stop long enough to see it.

Some Noticings may involve composition, timing, light, movement, or another practical idea. But the photograph comes first. The point isn't to turn ordinary life into a photography exercise. It's to notice what was already happening.

Point & Shoot

You don't need to be a photographer. And you don't need a particular camera.

Point & Shoot is for anyone who wants to make better photographs of family, home, travel, pets, seasons, routines, relationships, celebrations, and everyday life—with the camera they already have.

Point & Shoot is an independent editorial project developed under Alta Foundry.
